无色或略带黄色透明液体。有刺鼻的酸气味。可溶于稀盐酸、乙醇。能从空气中吸湿,在空气中发白烟,浓的水溶液稳定,但有腐蚀性,稀的水溶液能析出不溶性的盐基性氯化物。能与氯仿和四氯化碳互溶,与溴互溶而成红色溶液。能与很多含氮、含氧有机物反应而呈黄、红或褐色。遇水分解,生成难溶性的羟基氯化物和氢氧化物,在潮湿空气中分解成二氧化钛和氯化氢,发生大量烟雾,有强烈的刺激性气味。
